Subway® Restaurants implements Tactician Online® (formerly Mapscape.com)
to power decision-making at the corporate and field levels
ANDOVER, Mass. - November 14, 2000 - Subway® Restaurants has rolled out Tactician Online, the online
market intelligence and strategy resource by Tactician Corporation. The site reporting, mapping and market
strategy system is now available to more than 200 Subway field analysts nationwide, as well as staff at
corporate headquarters.
Tactician Online is easy-to-use, yet flexible enough to incorporate both Tactician-provided Automated
Marketing Intelligence (sm) data (AMIs) and unique, user-defined "Personal" AMIs, which companies set
themselves to customize Tactician Online for their own use. Tactician Online provides the most current and
comprehensive data available, has the capability of e-mailing maps and analyses, and is scalable -
accommodating the market intelligence needs of the largest corporations to the smallest businesses.
"With Tactician Online, users at Subway are offered the flexibility of performing 'Deep Dive' analyses,
more focused ones, or anything in between," says Sherry Landon, director of sales at Tactician Corporation.
"Users simply select the AMIs and other business criteria, such as existing restaurants or a specific
address, and click 'Finish.'"
"Tactician Online offers us the ability to provide up-to-date information on a timely basis in a format
that assists corporate staff and our field analysts in making more informed decisions about such things as
potential locations for new Subway Restaurants," adds Don Fertman, director of development at Subway.
A simple Wizard-based interface, which Tactician has named One-Click Marketing (sm), guides users through
the steps required to perform sophisticated site and market strategy analyses. Through this interface, users
can create, modify and fine-tune their own Personal AMIs, which can be easily applied to existing or
potential sites and markets.
In Subway's case, for example, Subway-defined corporate AMIs have been established which include
company-provided factors such as sales data for each location (updated daily), locations of competitors and
road traffic volume surrounding a particular site. These Subway-defined corporate AMIs can be selected and
systematically applied to existing or prospective sites or markets again and again with a single mouse
click, or modified by a user and saved as Personal AMIs.
With the ability to apply standardized criteria established by Subway at the corporate level,
decision-makers are ensured conclusions - both at headquarters and in the field are based on stringent
parameters consistently applied throughout the organization. Armed with a standard Internet browser,
Tactician Online users can then evaluate multiple or single sites and markets simultaneously.
Subway Restaurants, the second largest fast-food chain in the world with more than 14,000 locations in 75
countries, is now working with Tactician to utilize Tactician Online's diverse capabilities in its
international markets.
The Tactician Online system offers users access to an extensive range of updated and projected data
variables for mapping and reporting, including: Demographics, Consumer Expenditure, Daytime Population,
Hurricane Risk, Tornado Risk, High Wind Risk, Earthquake Risk, Environmental Risk, Wealth, Assets and Debt,
Disposable Income, Net Worth and Climate data. Last month, Tactician added BusinessCounts, TrafficMetrix,
Mosaic Lifestyle and CrimeRisk data, giving Tactician Online the most extensive collection of data available
in the industry.
