The WeatherRisk data set consists of four separate types of weather-related hazards: hurricanes,
tornadoes, hail, and damaging winds. The data are the results of a series of spatial analyses carried out
on records compiled from publicly available USGS sources aimed at producing risk index estimates by
geography.
A composite WeatherRisk Index is also provided which presents a unified risk index based on the relative
damage expected from each of the four types of events. Variables are available in raw numbers, percentages
and indices.
Weather Categories include:
- Hurricane Risk (Frequency, Avg. Severity, Maximum Severity, Index)
- Tornado Risk (Frequency, Avg. Intensity, Fatalities, Damage, Index)
- Hail Risk (Frequency, Avg. Severity, Maximum Severity, Index)
- High Wind Risk (Frequency, Avg. Severity, Maximum Severity, Index)
- Overall Weather Risk
Climate Categories include:
- Temperature (Avg January High, Avg January Low, Avg January, Avg July High, Avg July Low, Avg July, Avg Annual High, Avg Annual Low, Avg Annual)
- Annual Precipitation (Rainfall, Snowfall)
- Degree Day Statistics (Annual Cooling Days, Annual Heating Days)
Environmental Hazard Categories include:
- Weather (Hail Risk, Hurricane Risk, Tornado Risk, Wind Damage Risk)
- Earthquake Risk
- Air Pollution Indexes (Ozone, Carbon Monoxide, Lead, Particulate Matter, Nitrogen Dioxide)
